Effie Hawthorne

Director of Board Operations

Effie serves the Bureau as the Director of Board Operations. The director oversees preparation for all parole, pardon, restoration of voting rights, and remission of fines and forfeiture consideration by the Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Effie is a proud native of Montgomery. She graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery summa cum laude and received her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. Following graduation from law school, Effie practiced law in the private sector for four years. She began her career with the State of Alabama as an attorney in the Bureau’s Legal Division from 2017-2018. She left the Bureau briefly to work at the Home Builders Licensure Board and returned as the Director of Board Operations in November 2019.

Effie is active in the legal community and currently serves on the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Board of Directors. She also serves on the Alabama State Bar’s Quality of Life, Health, and Wellness Task Force and the 19th Amendment Centennial Celebration Task Force. She is a Barrister member of the Hugh Maddox American Inn of Court and serves on the American Bar Association’s Paralegal Studies Advisory Committee at Auburn University of Montgomery. In addition, Effie serves with several non-profit organizations around the community.
