ADVISORY: Alabama Recovery Advocacy Day Coming to Montgomery

Governor Kay Ivey to Kick Off Statewide Celebration of Alabama’s Recovery Community

MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama Governor Kay Ivey will lead a public celebration for the inaugural Alabama Recovery Advocacy Day, an event created by the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences (AARR), in partnership with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles (ABPP) and recovery organizations and agencies throughout Alabama, on Tuesday, March 5.

ALRAD 2024 will be the first in a series of annual events hosted in Montgomery, bringing the recovery community and partners together to connect with state leaders and government officials. Partner agencies, nonprofit community partners, recovery organizations, government officials and more will be in attendance. A continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided at the Alabama State House in Room 200. Media members, community partners and all interested individuals are welcome to attend.

Events begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Alabama State House with presentations by recovery organizations on how they help people with substance use disorder find recovery and support. In addition, individuals who have experienced recovery from substance use disorder will be sharing their personal stories of life change.

At 11:30 a.m., the Recovery Rally will be held on the steps of the Capitol Building. This gathering will celebrate the individuals and organizations who have dedicated their lives to helping people find long-term recovery from substance use disorder, recognize the accomplishments of Governor Ivey’s Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council in combatting the opioid crisis in our state, and support efforts to continue working toward long-term solutions.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the State House, individuals who registered online by February 29 will have the opportunity to meet their respective legislators to talk about recovery-related issues important to them.

Visit www.alrad.info for more information about the event, including registration details and updates. Additional details will be reported in a news release the day of the event.
