Double Springs Field Office: Dedicated to Serving

By Jakiya Dudley, Digital Media Specialist

DOUBLE SPRINGS, Ala. – The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles’ Double Springs Field Office is small but mighty! It is located at 24714 Highway 195 and provides centralized access to the needs of Winston County’s probationers and parolees.

District Manager Sid Slate warmly welcomed and introduced me to yet another one of his fantastic teams who never fail to get the job done. I had the pleasure of meeting Officer-in-Charge Leslie Robinson, Officer Luke Morrison, and Administrative Support Assistant III Jennifer Bullock.

Seasoned 17-year Bureau employee ASA III Jennifer Bullock, described her duties as being a support system for both clients and officers alike. ASA III Bullock says her day consists of reception duties, scheduling, documenting, filing and more. “I love every minute of handling the behind the scenes work of the office,” she said. “It’s like second nature to me now.”

OIC Leslie Robinson has been with the Bureau for two decades and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Throughout her years of service, OIC Robinson said she enjoys the diversity of her days the most. “It’s easy for things to become repetitive, but in this field there’s always something new. You never know what you’re going to get, but it’s always an adventure figuring out how to use our resources to handle the situations.”

Officer Luke Morrison agreed, adding on to the range of duties their job can entail. “In my three years of serving as a parole officer, I can confidently say we wear many hats,” he said. “From monitoring clients, visiting homes, making court appearances, managing crisis interventions, and providing resources, we do it all and I enjoy it.

District Manager Sid Slate applauded this small team for the major work and time they put into serving the community. “Every day this team demonstrates great dedication, and I want to make sure I give them their proper recognition,” he said. “Their hard work does not go unnoticed.”

The Bureau has 62 field offices, serving all Alabama counties. Field offices function as a local base of operations for Probation and Parole Officers, specialists, and other support staff. Officers are required to make various contacts with probationers and parolees based on their risk level. These contacts range from a monthly office visit for lower risk individuals to weekly office, home, employment and curfew checks for higher risk individuals. In addition, officers are tasked with various types of investigations requested by the Bureau or courts, as well as assisting other law enforcement agencies when needed.
