Bay Minette, Ala. – The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles recently celebrated several graduation ceremonies for participants in our Day Reporting Centers, recognizing the hard work and progress of individuals committed to positive change. These ceremonies mark the successful completion of the program, highlighting participants’ journeys of personal growth, accountability, and rehabilitation. Each graduation is a testament to the Bureau’s commitment to reducing recidivism and helping participants reintegrate as productive members of their communities.

On August 28, five Baldwin DRC Lite graduates were honored for their perseverance and dedication. This specific ceremony not only celebrated their achievements but also highlighted the impact of the Baldwin DRC Lite’s resources and support systems, which helps participants build the skills necessary for a successful future.

Baldwin DRC Lite Administrator Joshua Davis spoke with heartfelt pride about the journey of each participant. He highlighted the array of resources the program provides, from counseling and educational workshops to vocational training and life skills development, all designed to support individuals in building a better future. Reflecting on the graduates’ commitment, he said, “These resources are here to empower you, but it’s your dedication that makes the difference. We are incredibly proud of each of you for embracing this opportunity and taking the steps toward a brighter path.”

One of the graduates expressed his sincere appreciation for the DRC program by stating, “Without the guidance of this program and staff, I’m not sure where I would be,” said Mario Mims. “I am truly thankful and blessed to have these people placed into my life to help me see my own potential.” He continued to say, “It was not easy in the beginning, but looking back it was one of the best opportunities of my life.”

Psychological Associate Valencia Cureton left a few encouraging words for the graduates. She said, “I want each of you to remember the reason you decided to change your life and allow that very reason to continue to motivate you from here on out.”

After a brief introduction, the audience welcomed Reverend Pamela Irby. She spoke about the unique perspective of life gained by the graduates through their time in incarceration. “As we all our trying to figure out this thing called life, you all have a second shot at it,” said Irby. She said, “Allow each and everything you’ve learned in this program to kickstart a new life for yourself.”

“This is a very important milestone in your lives,” said Administrator Davis in his closing speech to the group. “We want you all to be successful. We are proud of you! Our doors are always open.”
